What You Will Do:

Under direct supervision of the Equipment Coordinator of Respiratory Services, the Respiratory Care Equipment Technician delivers and stocks equipment and supplies throughout the hospital and clinic areas, as well as clean, process, and reassemble respiratory equipment for use by the Respiratory Therapists.


Principal Responsibilities and Tasks

1. Disassembles, cleans/processes, and reassembles equipment, including ventilators and high humidity set-ups.


A. Prepares equipment for disinfection using the combination washer/pasteurizer & drying systems.


B. Maintains the Pasteurmatic “wash/pasteurizing” cycle log(s).


C. Performs topical disinfection of reusable respiratory equipment hard surfaces using hospital approved disinfection agents according to Infection Control and departmental policies/procedure.


D. Inspects and safety checks all ventilator exhalation system components for all mechanical ventilators. Reports to equipment coordinator and/or pulls from service any defective devices.


E. Re-circuits all respiratory care equipment (e.g., invasive/non-invasive mechanical ventilators, SiPAP, Vapotherm, and Oscillatory ventilators etc.). Verifies backup tank supply and auxiliary battery performance.


F. Where applicable, performs the “pre-use” check on all life support equipment to assure proper function.


G. Identifies and labels equipment that has been prepared and ready for use. Places clean plastic cover on all equipment to avoid particulate contaminate while stored. Stages equipment throughout the facility in pre-designated respiratory care supply closets.


H. Identifies and/or reports to Biomed life support equipment due for preventative maintenance, oxygen sensor replacement, and software upgrades. Assists in the location and delivery of said equipment to the biomedical workshop.


I. Changes the Respiratory Care department's bactericidal cleaning agent in the "Dirty Utility Room" and dates and labels old container on a biweekly basis.


2. The equipment technician delivers respiratory equipment, such as life support equipment (ventilators) and disposable supplies from the respiratory department and/or materials management.


A. Checks and maintains respiratory equipment stock levels in the pre-designated respiratory care supply closets on the nursing units and clinics on a daily basis.


B. Conducts a count of all oxygen tanks stocked in the tank-holding area of Respiratory Care Department on a daily basis, and reports need and/or deficits to the equipment coordinator for order placement.


C. Conducts a count of all oxygen tanks stocked in the pre-designated respiratory care supply closets on the nursing units and clinics and stocks accordingly.


D. The Equipment Technician responds to emergency requests from respiratory therapists, physicians, and nursing staff throughout the facility.


3. Demonstrate area ownership for assigned units.


A. Work with assigned unit therapists to identify equipment needs for the shift/day.


B. Pick-up soiled and delivery of clean equipment during daily unit rounds.


What You Need to Be Successful:

High school diploma or equivalent (GED) is required.


One year of work experience performing medical order entry and/or exposure to medical products.


Previous experience in equipment stocking/distribution is preferred.
